Tips to handle aggressive behavior

  1. Be on the alert for triggers.
    There would be particular events or incidences that set of a violent behavior. Watch out for them.
  2. Encourage your child to talk to you. Never ignore or neglect him. It could be extremely harmful for him. Let him verbalize his thoughts and emotions.
  3. Never overburden the child with anything. He needs time to relax. Fatigue could promote inappropriate behavior.
  4. Let your child take part in a number of extra-curricular activities that he loves. It keeps him occupied and also helps release excess energy.
  5. It is very crucial that you remain calm and not hit the roof. This will worsen the situation. Ignore inappropriate behavior and encourage and reward good behavior. Don’t ignore the child, just the behavior.
  6. Be affectionate. Let him know that he is really loved and cared for. Sometimes all that is needed is a warm hug.
  7. Parents try to control the kid and check the aggressive behavior by overpowering, or beating, or scolding or intimidating them. Parents fail to realize that they are using a form of aggression to fight aggression. Abstain from such behavior.
  8. Make sure there is no sibling rivalry.
  9. In severe cases, a counselor or a psychologist is required to counsel the child. Don’t shy away from it.
  10. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), is a very effective technique which helps to handle difficult children. Parent participation and long term therapy is a must for beneficial results to be seen.

Nutrition tip for your Children

Give your child a glass of warm milk to which 2 tablespoons of honey are added, 1 hour before he retires for the night.  Adding a pinch of nutmeg will ensure a good night’s sleep, and wake him refreshed. Poor sleep, inadequate rest, and waking up grumpy, could make a child bad-tempered.

Also, pay careful attention to his diet. A diet which is lacking in macro or micro nutrients could trigger such behavior. Furthermore, remember that, hunger, makes a child irritable and cross.
