Pregnancy Constipation Remedies:
Higher progesterone levels relax the bowel muscles and make them less efficient. Normal rhythmic contractions are slowed. The result is constipation; this most frequently occurs in third trimester. In addition, the baby increases pressure on the intestines, slowing the movement of the feces. Enema in pregnancy is not advisable as it may lead to premature contraction of the uterus and labor may follow. Hence enema should not be given during pregnancy.
Prevention Treatment for Pregnancy Constipation:
- Do not eat constipating food (e.g. soft bread, hard cheese etc.). Drink lots of water, beginning as soon as you arise in the morning.Avoid concentrated foods, such as meats, sugar and cheese as they cause constipation.
- Increase the amount diet which contains fiber in it. Eat fresh and dried fruit, especially stewed prunes. Bran can also be taken; but, if so accompany it with lots of water or it will constipate. These fiber-rich foods help soften stools and make elimination easier.
- Once you wake up in the morning take warm water sip by sip till your breakfast. By this time you should have consumed around half a liter of water. This habit enhances your bowel movement and thus normal morning movement of bowels will follow.This usually refreshes your day. One should do this regularly as it is simple and very effective.
- Iron supplements can cause constipation; they may also cause a miscarriage. It is best to get iron; which you require from blackstrap molasses.
- Do not use over the counter laxatives.
- Do lots of walking every day after your meals.
- Regularity is important. Try to set a certain time each day for bowel movements. Elevating your legs during each one will help relax your anal muscle.
- Figs or prunes should be added in your diet along with flaxseed. One can take prune juice. Adding both this things will add fiber and stools will become soft.
- Beta carotene or carrot juice will also help maintain the health of the intestinal lining. Acidophilus will keep the large bowel healthy. This is also useful in anemia.
