2nd Month of Pregnancy – Stress & Stress Management a Challenge For The Mother
You will be feeling more symptoms of pregnancy now. The reality of approaching parenthood may suddenly hit you. Your stress levels will be high. Recognize and understand your emotional changes to help control yourself.
Mood Swings during 2nd month of pregnancy
You will be surprised to note that even a balanced, cool person will have emotional outbursts during this phase. There will be array of mixed emotions. You will be laughing hysterically one moment and sobbing uncontrollably the next.
You are not losing your mind or control; you are going through the normal mood swings of pregnancy. These feelings are stronger in the first trimester as your body copes up with hormonal and other changes. You have every right to be cranky because of the transformations in the body, and accompanying pains and ache and physical discomforts. But remember no one is happy when that happens.
Stress and Stress Management
The amount of preparation that goes for arrival of the new family member is quite strenuous. Try to keep your activities and commitment to a minimum. Prevent mental and physical strain because your body is already working overtime on the development of your child. If physical and outside stress is accompanied by psychological stress then the discomforts of pregnancy become severe and last longer.
Your anxiety may also affect the child’s health. Stress releases corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH) which is linked to preterm labor and low birth weight. Stress during your first trimester seems to be interconnected with defects in children during birth. Don’t be a perfectionist in all small matters. You will be forever complaining. This extra tension will adversely affect the child. When you feel the pressure build-up take steps to decompress it.
Find the right technique for effective stress management. Relaxation and meditation techniques that include progressive muscle relaxation and some forms of yoga are beneficial. Sparing sometime for your-self, adjustments in your work or social schedule will help decompress. Exercise is also a beneficial method. But consult on the exercises that are appropriate for you.
Note – Martial arts, certain strenuous yoga positions are not advisable for pregnant women. Over the counter medications, herbal preparations and fad diets can be bad for you.
