1 Month Pregnant
All the body’s systems seem to be working at high speed during these early days of pregnancy. Absence of menstrual period will be the first thing to be noticed in majority of the cases. You will experience tiredness, anxiety and will be urinating frequently.
The embryo will secrete the h CG hormone (human Chorionic Gonadotropin) into your system. The h CG interrupts menstruation and signals the ovaries to produce hormone progesterone until the eighth week of pregnancy.
1st Month Pregnancy: Changes in Mothers Body
No significant changes maybe observed in shape and size during the first month of pregnancy.
- But your waistband may have a tight feeling and you will feel slightly bloated.
- Breast may increase in size, become fuller and tender. The areolas around the nipples may darken and enlarge.
- There will be increase in vaginal secretions. This is another hormonal side effect. This will last throughout pregnancy.
- Some women experience spotting (minor vaginal blood flow) seven to ten days after ovulation, when the embryo implants itself on the uterine wall.Spotting lasts for about two days. It pink to brown in color and can be accompanied by cramps.
Caution During month 1 of Pregnancy
Normally the vaginal secretions during pregnancy are clear to white in color, odor and pain free and mucus like. But sometimes due to infection the discharge maybe thick, foul smelling and off color accompanied by blood and itching. Call the doctor immediately under such circumstances.
1st Month Pregnancy – What the mother feels like -
- Even though it is the initial weeks you are bound to feel tired. Take a nap during the day. If that is not possible then go to bed early. This is very important because it is nap time for the baby as well.
- Due to increase in progesterone hormone, which relaxes bladder muscles you will be urinating frequently. This process will continue throughout pregnancy.
- Increased levels of progesterone may lead to constipation. Things may aggravate further if you are on iron supplements.
- There are big changes in the cardiovascular system also. The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to nourish the baby. Pregnancy hormones can dilate or expand the blood vessels to such an extent that it increases the accommodation of the blood by fifty percent.
- Cardiac output (rate at which heart pumps blood) increases by thirty to fifty percent. The blood pressure drops. As a result of this you may feel faint, dizzy or light headed. Sit down or lie down on your side at the earliest. Avoid lying on your back as this exerts pressure on the main blood vessels that circulates oxygen. So dizziness may increase.
- Morning Sickness clinically referred as Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy or NVP is one of the worst symptoms of pregnancy. Nearly eighty percent of women experience one or both the symptoms at some time during pregnancy. It can happen at any time and the intensity varies.
- There is an increasing sensitivity to odors. Your one time favorite odor may cause turbulence in your stomach now. Smell of fried foods, coffee and cigarette smoke affect frequently.
- Pregnancy hormones may produce excess saliva.
- Congestion and/or post nasal drip is another common side effect of hormonal changes.
Contact your doctor if dizziness or fainting episodes continue; there is bleeding or abdominal pain. The symptoms are similar to tubular pregnancy, where the implantation is outside the lining of the uterus example the fallopian tube.
AT THE DOCTOR -
Visit your doctor when you have confirmed pregnancy with home test. Now onwards you will be visiting your doctor for checkups on monthly basis up to the seventh month. But if you are at high risk then you may have frequent appointments.
If you have gone to a new doctor then your visit will be of longer duration because you may be asked to fill medical history forms and mention pregnancy symptoms. In addition you will have to undergo a thorough physical examination, have blood drawn for lab tests, give urine sample; a Pap smear test may also be advised.
Pamphlets or educational brochures on prenatal nutrition and other topics maybe provided to you. Keep together all your pregnancy information in a folder, within easy reach. If your spouse accompanies you to the doctor it is beneficial. He will provide you moral support; remember things that have been advised by the doctor. Besides as the father he may have some queries of the baby as well.
