Causes of White Spots on Tonsils
The tonsils are one of the most important parts of the body especially when it comes to filtering anything that we take in orally. Being located at the base of the mouth, the tonsils filter the solids and liquids that we take in through our mouth. As a result, it is exposed to various sorts of harm. This is why people frequently suffer from sore throat due to bacterial activity although it can also be a precursor for to the onset of colds.
White spots on tonsils throat are commonly called tonsil stones. There are various reasons why white spots on tonsils appear, although the following are the most common:
- The most common reason for developing white spots on tonsils is due to bacterial activity.Because the mouth is a habitat for various types of bacteria, there is a real risk that one will develop tonsil stones.
- Another factor that causes the appearance of small white spots on tonsils throat is due to a hyperactive salivary gland. Likewise, mucus deposits can also cause the appearance and development of tonsil stones.
- Trapped food is another factor for the appearance of white spots on tonsils. When a food is trapped around the tonsil, bacteria are soon attracted which in turn affects the tonsils.
Treatment of White Spots on Tonsils
The following are the symptoms of one having tonsil stones:
- The small white spots on tonsils cause foul smell. The foul smell that is described here is not the type that can be removed by regular washing with mouthwash or brushing. The smell is recurrent and does not easily fade away.
- White spots on tonsils can also cause pain or itch in one of the ears or both. This is one reason that commonly misleads people to think that what they have is an ear infection instead of a tonsil infection.
- Small white spots on tonsils throat can trigger it to become swollen or inflamed.
- White spots on tonsils can also cause a person to have a perpetually bad taste at the base of the mouth, even if one is eating sweet foods.
