Lesions on tongue appear as white ulcers and can be very painful and have the tendency to bleed.
Tongue Lesions Causes
- Malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies.
- Iron deficiency anemia – a type of anemia caused by depletion of iron stores in the body.
- Pernicious anemia – caused by vitamin B12 deficiency.
- Oral yeast infection (oral candidiasis).
- Side effects of medications.
- Tight-fitting dentures or braces, burns, trauma, accidental biting.
- Irritation from certain foods such as foods with high spices, chewing or tobacco smoking, and using strong mouthwash and toothpastes.
- Malignancy.
In some cases there is no identifiable cause for the lesions on tongue.
How To Treat Lesions On Tongue
Tongue lesions treatment focuses on treating the known cause. In general, remedies include the following:
- Take pain medications.
- Avoid consuming irritants such as strongly spiced and other irritating foods, alcohol, and smoking.
- Good and proper dental hygiene. Consult a dentist if needed.
- You can also make homemade mouth wash. Mix 1/2 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate in one glass of warm water and rinse. Then wash with warm water. Do this for four times a day.
Tongue Lesions Treatment
- You can also apply glycerine on the lesions to aid for wound healing.
- Eat nutritious foods especially foods high in vitamin B12 and protein.
- Use a milder mouthwash.
You can also have a mixture of two cups water to one cup of fenugreek seeds and boil for some time. Cover and let cool. Once cooled, remove the seeds and gargle twice a day.
