Buck Teeth: Surgery Or Braces For Fixing Buck Teeth

Buck teeth is a condition where the persons lower teeth or upper teeth or both teeth are protruding out. This hinders the complete closure of mouth and the teeth are visible. Buck teeth are not only cosmetically embarrassing, but it may also damage the protruding teeth from trauma. A person will not be able to eat properly and he forms the habit of mouth breathing.

Fixing Buck Teeth

With modern orthodontic treatments, there are various options available to fix buck teeth:

  • Fixing braces is the most popular treatment. It corrects the teeth position and brings teeth inwards till you desire.
    This procedure requires metal brackets which are fixed on the teeth and connected by wires. When the metal wires are pulled from time to time the teeth forms a desired dental arch.
  • There are many other varieties and sophisticated braces available as per the requirements of the patients. Invisalign is used to fix buckteeth. They work similar to standard braces, but the advantage is they are plastic aligners which can be removed while eating or brushing the teeth. After 3 to 4 weeks they are replaced with another tight aligner.

  • The other type of braces is called lingual braces.
    They are not visible from outside as they are placed in the inner surface of the teeth. They are metal braces. With this braces an extra care has to be taken for maintaining dental health. Chances of cavities increase with this type of braces. Persons in profession such as airhostess, receptionist or an orator can get rid of buck teeth problem with lingual braces.

  • Buck teeth surgery is usually advised by an orthodentist when the fault lies in your upper jaw. At times, it is not the teeth but the upper jaw which is placed excessively forward giving an impression of buck teeth, even though the teeth are normally aligned inwards. Many times the lower jaw may be placed excessively backwards than the upper jaw giving an impression of buck teeth.
