Other important cause for itching in external ear is due to fungus infection. White flakes or black and yellow spores can be seen. This consists essentially of cleaning out the external canal by syringing and mopping it dry. Once the canal is clean, gauze strip soaked in anti-fungal solution should be inserted in the meatus and changed daily or on alternate days, depending on the severity of the infection.
