How can I quit smoking?
- If you are thinking of stopping, don’t set a date from when you will stop smoking – do it right now
- Ask yourself, whenever you start to light a cigarette, ‘Why am I smoking?’ ‘Why do I need to smoke?’. This will make you wonder and look for reasons and make it that extra bit tough to smoke.
- Avoid places, parties, company that smokes – its very easy to relapse
- Throw away your ash trays, clean up your teeth from your dentist – to get your teeth looking good again as smoking really spoils and discolors your teeth
- Give yourself a substitute - each time you feel like smoking chew a gum or eat a vitamin gummy bear or do something you like – but try and avoid reaching for that cigarette
- Don’t buy a pack of cigarettes, just buy 1 when you need one.
- Don’t smoke the entire cigarette – smoke a few puffs and throw it away. Reduce your intake – start to hate it!
- Keep trying. It’s not easy to stop smoking – but if you do it for even 15 days, you will see the benefits immediately and may not want to smoke again.
- You may smoke again after a few days – but that’s ok – keep trying and at one point you will certainly stop smoking – believe in yourself!
