How Often Tetanus Injection Should Be Given For Cuts by Rusty Things

When Do You Need Tetanus Injection

Question: I have minor cuts on my arm by a razor blade and I was very concerned and I wanted to know if it’s serious or if it can create any health problem.

I wanted to know if I need a tetanus shot or I can just apply anti-biotic or any other solution that can help. Can you please let me know what I have do to when I get cuts like this? Is rusty iron dangerous? If I have taken tetanus injection sometimes back, how long its effect lasts?
Antibiotics prevent the spread and growth of bacterium in the wound/cut. Clostridium Tentani is the bacteria which causes Tetanus. A correct dose and composition of antibiotics effective on gram negative bacteria will prevent the spread of the bacteria, however there is no point taking chances, considering that a vaccination will be 100% effective.

How Often Tetanus

In case of a cut or an injury, it is always advisable to take Tetanus Toxoid vaccination. Normally a booster dose of TT is required every 10 years. If you are not aware of your last date of vaccination, it is advisable that you do get vaccinated immediately.

I am a 12 year old girl and I had my tetanus shot at 10 yr. yesterday I had a fall on an iron railing and have scratches on my thigh. Should I be taking a tetanus shot? How long does the immunity last?
