Blocked Ears Due to Sinus | Natural Cure for Blocked Ears

Blocked Ears Caused by Sinus

Sinuses are tiny cavities inside the head that allow the air to enter and secretions to exit through it. These openings into the sinuses are very small and tiny. An opening is of a few millimeters for the smaller one.
Sinuses can become inflamed due to cold, the flu or allergies. They can also be affected due to smoking or if the smoke is inhaled from other sources or any other environmental irritants such as dust or pollens and polluted air etc.
It doesn’t take much swelling to cause a blockage of these sinuses.

Once the opening is blocked, the air in the sinus is absorbed and fluid accumulates because it can’t get out. The openings are extremely sensitive to pain and if the inflammation is caused it will result in the pain. It can be felt over the cheeks, eyes or forehead or on top of the head depending on which of the eight sinuses are blocked.

Due to the inflammation the Eustachian tube which connects the middle ear and throat gets blocked which causes blocked ears. If there is infection involved then there can be yellowish-green discharge through it.

Other Reasons

  • There are many causes of blocked ears. It could be due to pressure changes while traveling in an airplane, poor ear hygiene or infrequent cleaning of the ears, and the buildup of mucus along the Eustachian tube due to common cold.
  • The Eustachian tube connects the outer and inner ear region including the nose and throat.
  • During a cold, the infection causes inflammation and allows mucus secretion into the nasal cavity thereby affecting the Eustachian tube and eventually blocks the ears.
  • Ear infections such as yeast or fungal infection can also lead to blocked ears. Although there are natural cures for blocked ears, yeast infection requires medical attention because it can ruin the eardrum and could lead to permanent ear damage.

Natural Cure for Blocked ears

  • One of the oldest methods for the sinus and blocked ears or stopped up ears,  is steam inhalation. Take some boiling water in a bowl, put a towel over your head and then breathe in the steam. This has a very instant effect as it liquefies the secretions which has blocked the Eustachian tube and helps in opening the canal.
  • A saline nasal spray is a good alternative to a decongestant which is present over the counter. The saline nasal spray can be prepared by mixing one tablespoon of salt in a pint of warm water.
  • Massage for sinus relief also helps to open up the closed sinuses. With one hand over each eye, rub steadily on the bony ridge located below and above your eyes. Then rub directly below your eyes and just above your teeth. This will give the relief from the pain.
  • Try warm compresses to relieve the sinus pain, this treatment does not work in every case.
  • Drink plenty of water or fluids to help dilute secretions and keeps mucus flowing.
  • Take about five garlic cloves and extract the juice from them. Mix this juice with two teaspoons of honey and take this mixture two to three times a day, depending on the intensity of the pain.

Other Treatment

  • Yawn. Having a big yawn could release the pressure in your ears especially after a flight. Chewing on a gum could also help in releasing pressure in your ears especially while traveling in an airplane.
  • Ear wax softener. You can soak a piece of cotton on olive oil or even on an ordinary baby oil and carefully dab it to the inner part of your ears to soften the earwax buildup or you can also heat up some olive oil and apply a few drops of it to your ears to soften the wax buildup.
  • Vitamin C-rich diet. One of the best natural cures for blocked ears involves eating food rich in vitamin C such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Consuming lots of food high in vitamin C would minimize the symptoms of common cold thereby lowering, if not totally stopping, the secretion of mucus to the nasal cavity and Eustachian tube.
  • Take lots of fluids. Drinking plenty of water a day could also treat the cold and prevent your ears from getting blocked.
  • Swallowing frequently is another natural cure for blocked ears.

    Dear Jimmy,

I have suffered with this since i was a child and got diagnosed with rhinitis, i still have this and use a nasal decongestant to help clear fluid from my ears and nose. Look at http://www.wikipedia.org and type in rhinitis and youll get a better understanding of this. Hope this helps.

$1000 to somebody who can give me advise that will help.

When I wake up I am fine. Then whenever I sleep on my left side, my ear gets blocked up. I hear something clogging up my ear.

Whenever I bend down forward, my ear gets clogged up. Then I have to go lie down on my other side for my ear to get unblocked again.

Is this sinus? I have no pain.

I have spent so much on doctors I am willing to send you $1000 if you successfully help me via either Paypal or EFT wire.

      Jimmy,

I’m not sure if you are still around reading these comments, but I have had the same problem you are experiencing. My ears would especially be blocked when I woke up in the morning. Usually depending on what side I slept on would determine which ear was blocked. I sought answers for a very long time and then ended up with the right doctor. She told me I had ear wax build up. She used a water/peroxide mixture and squeezed it into my ears with a huge stainless steel syringe. Guess what? I had pieces of wax coming out of my ear the size of M & M’s & bigger! After she cleaned each ear about 4 or 5 times each, my hearing was 100% restored, I felt like a super hero because I could hear so good! No more dizziness, no more stopped up ear feelings, no more pain, no more worry.

I couldn’t believe it was all ear wax!

Start there, you might be surprised too!
