- Sluggish circulation of blood is the main cause.
- Wearing tight clothing, lack of exercise, standing for long periods, pregnancy, obesity, constipation, smoking and dietetic errors promote sluggish circulation.
Treatment of Varicose Veins
- The patient should be put on juice fast for 5 days. Warm water enema should be administered. Then adhere to a restricted diet. Avoid bread, potatoes and starchy foods.
- Breakfast – Oranges and lemon juice.
- Mid-day meal – raw salad with olive oil and lemon juice dressing.
- Evening – steamed vegetables, figs or dates.
- Then gradually switch to a well-balanced diet.
- Carrot juice in combination with spinach juice is highly beneficial in the treatment of Varicose Veins. Mix 300 milliliters carrot juice with 200 milliliters spinach juice before consumption.
- Vitamin C and Vitamin E relieve pain and leg cramps associated with varicose veins. The patient should take 3,000 milligrams of Vitamin C and 600 International Units of Vitamin E daily.
- Alternate hot and cold hip bath is very valuable for the treatment of varicose veins. Cold packs should be applied to affected parts.

Precautionary Measures to avoid Varicose Veins
- Get up and walk every half an hour, when you are traveling by plane or train over long distances.

- Move feet and legs if you are confined to bed and unable to walk.
- Avoid wearing elastic girdles over long periods.
- Yoga, deep breathing exercises and sunbathing are also beneficial.
- Sleep with feet raised slightly above the level of the heart to aide the blood to flow away from the ankles.
