The Molisch Test
All carbohydrates. Monosaccharides give a rapid positive test. Disaccharides and polysaccharides react slower.
Reactions:
The test reagent dehydrates pentoses to form furfural (top reaction) and dehydrates hexoses to form 5-hydroxymethyl furfural. The furfurals further react with -naphthol present in the test reagent to produce a purple product
Iodine test
Shows positive test for Starch
Reactions:
Iodine complexes with starch to form a blue-black product.
Disaccharides
Disaccharides are composed of two monosaccharide meat, seafood, and alcohol increases the risk of newly diagnosed gout. In addition, dairy products and coffee may be protective, lowering the risk of gout. However, these studies looked at people who had not had gout before. They did not assess the effect of diet on people who already had gout.
Disaccharides
Disaccharides are composed of two monosaccharide joined together. Sucrose (table sugar) is a disaccharide composed of one glucose and one fructose molecule
In the Mouth
The process of digesting carbohydrates begins in the mouth. saliva contains an enzyme called amylase that starts breaking down the more complex carbohydrates into simpler types.

Gout occurs as a result of excess uric acid (urate) in the blood and tissues. Gout occurs due to impaired excretion of uric acid from the kidney. Impaired excretion of uric acid include primary and secondary cause. Primary cause is idiopathic. Secondary cause include chronic renal disease, drug therapy, hypertention, lead toxicity, primary hyperparathyroidism, hypothyroidism, increased lactic acid production, glucose 6 phosphatase deficiency. Over production of uric acid includes idiopathic (primary) gout, increased purine synthesis of de novo due to hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyl transferase reduction (an x linked inborn error causing the lesh nyhan syndrome), phosphoribosyl-pyrophosphate synthetase overactivity. Gout is a common joint disease affecting over five times more men than women. It is rare in children. In men, it can occur any time after puberty, whereas in women it is uncommon before the menopause. In around 10% of cases there is a family history of the disorder. People who are overweight, have high blood pressure, eat diets rich in protein and drink large quantities of alcohol have an increased risk of developing gout

The management of gout is strictly through diet and food prescriptions.
Follow these guidelines stringently:
- Incorporate lots of fluids in the diet. Drink a minimum of 3 and 1/2 liters of water.
- Alcohol is a complete no – no. it precipitates an attack of gout.
- Avoid the following foods altogether – herring, mackerel, anchovies, organ meat, sardine, sea food, shellfish, and spinach.
- Legumes can be consumed in moderation. About 1 bowl twice a week.
- Keep fat intake at a minimum.
- Cherries are the best food prescription for gout. They have the potential to inhibit the formation of uric acid and consequently stave of an attack of gout.
Homoeopathy treats gout effectively
Benzoic acid, a powerful homoeopathic drug, helps keep uric acid in check and ameliorates the symptoms. It would be preferable if you could detail your symptoms to me.
Hyperuricaemia is the presence of increased levels of uric acid in the blood. Hyperuricaemia leads to gout, which is a type of arthritis, occurring due to uric acid crystals, which get deposited in the joints causing severe pain and inflammation.
Of course, you ought to stop alcohol.
Alcohol is the biggest enemy, which could precipitate an attack of gout.
Dietary do’s and don’ts:
o Eat a diet that is low in purines. That means avoid these: anchovies, herring, mackerel, sardines, organ meats, mushrooms, shellfish, spinach, poultry, and dried peas.
o Eggs, fruits, nuts, olives can be eaten in moderation.
o Eliminate alcohol completely.
o Low fat intake is recommended
o Drink plenty of water. This keeps the urine diluted and promotes the excretion of uric acid.
Food prescription:
Consume loads of cherries.
Cherries are highly effective in lowering serum uric acid levels. They also prevent an episode of gout from occurring.
The flavanoid content in cherries is very high and this helps avert hyperuricaemia.
Your uric acid level is slightly high; alcohol and meet are known to increase uric acid level.
