Question: I got the blood test and typhoid was detected. Two years before same problem occurred and this is the third time that I am facing the same problem. Can you explain this?
Answer:
Typhoid is a highly infectious disease and is notorious for its habit to become chronic and recurrent. Thus, it is extremely crucial to check the progress and propagation of the disease and eliminate it from the very roots.
Nutritive measures are the most significant, vital and the only way of bringing about a lasting cure for typhoid.
Preventing of Typhoid:
- Drink nothing other than boiled and properly filtered water.
- Keep yourself well hydrated to prevent typhoid.
- Avoid consuming raw foods.
- Stay away from outside food.
- Wash hands and feet frequently and thoroughly, with a soap, particularly, after you return from out.
- Weakness results from inadequate rest and sleep. Rest as much as possible. Your body needs to recover.
Typhoid Precaution:
- Avoid popping too many analgesics and anti-pyretics like crocin.
Diet Treatment for Typhoid:
- Carrot soup is highly beneficial for gastro-intestinal disorders. It calms and soothes inflamed and irritated bowels. Drink 1 bowl of carrot soup everyday just before your meals.
- To combat fatigue, consume 10 raisins daily. Soak them overnight in a little water and eat them, the next day.
- Avoid stimulating food stuffs – spicy food, tea, coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol to prevent typhoid.
- To treat typhoid, consume rice gruel as it is soft, easily digested and rich in nutrients.
Question: Can a typhoid patient take bath in hot or cold water?
Typhoid Prevention:
* The temperature of water used for bath tends to affect the internal environment of the body. Normally the internal environment of the body (called homeostasis) comprises of several systems that work in synergy to ensure the internal temperature, fluids composition, oxygen saturation, sugar levels of blood, etc inside the body are maintained at optimal levels for normal functioning. Febrile conditions (like typhoid fever) tend to disrupt the internal mechanisms of the body and rise the temperature.
* Baths have some form of remedial effects.
* Regular cold baths reduce the tendency of a person to catch cold.
* They are also prescribed among people with febrile condition, especially typhoid fever to control body temperature.
* A cold bath stimulates the skin, which causes a temporary rise in body temperature. However, subsequently due to reduce loss of heat by radiation, the internal production of heat reduces. This results in fall of body temperature.
* This fall is quick and continues for the time the patient is in the bath.
* Warm baths also have cleansing effects on the internal system, but not used in febrile conditions. They tend to liquefy fatty secretions (usually during congestive infection of the upper and lower respiratory tract). Hot bath is usually recommended in renal or biliary colic and rheumatoid arthritis.

All other tests conducted on the person, for jaundice, chickengunya, swine flu, are negative. Doctor advised to wait for another two days and then wants to start giving intravenous fluid and also antibiotics. How does typhoid spread?
Typhoid spreads from human to human mainly through water and food. Hence, good hygiene and sanitary conditions are essential to prevent typhoid infection and spread. Typhoid fever is caused due to a bacteria. when passing through the bowel, the bacteria may penetrate the intestinal lining and latch on to the internal tissue. The bacteria and multiplies and gets into the blood stream.
I have recurring typhoid since October, 2011 – Widal tested twice and it is positive. I was given different types of antibiotics. With these medications, it reduces, but when I’m off them, it comes back, especially the body aches.
Constipation also is a menace, which is resulting in Hemorrhoids. I have not tried Cefixime, as the doctor has not prescribed it, and in any case it’s hard to find here in Zambia. How effective is it?
There’s being frequent outbreaks of typhoid recently here, in various towns.
It is always necessary to consult your doctor before starting an antibiotic. Drink only boiled water and cooked food. Also insist on eating freshly prepared food. These precautions are important when there is outbreak of typhoid. Eat vegetables and fruits as the digestive tract will be able to digest this food easily. Secondly it will also help in relieving constipation. Mash 2 ripe bananas and mix 1 teaspoon of honey in it. Eat it two times in a day regularly. It helps in controlling fever and body ache.
