Did you know that the popular Vicks VapoRub can help heal fungus in toenails. It is believed that the high substance of mint or menthol that is present in Vicks VapoRub can cause suffocation to the fungus, thus causing the fungus to die. The menthol further helps in sanitizing the fungal infected area. But Vicks VapoRub is not the only home remedy that is available in treating toenail fungus.

There are still lots of alternative medications.

Home Remedies for Toenail Fungus

Other than using Vicks VapoRub to treat toenail fungus, there are other ways that you can use to treat it. Here are some home remedies for toenail fungus.

• Use tea tree oil. – It has been medically declared that tea tree oil is one of the best weapons against fungus.
• Preparations:
  • Use tea tree oil only. Do not use tea tree oil that is mixed with extenders.
    Tea tree oils are now easily available in drugstores.
  • Pour a little amount of tea tree oil in a cotton ball.
  • Put the cotton with tea tree oil between your toenail and skin.
  • You may also use cotton buds so that the tea tree oil can reach as deep as possible.
  • Leave the cotton with tea tree oil in your toenail overnight for best results.
  • Use cloth or fresh socks to cover the toenail and the cotton. This way the tea tree oil will not get into your bedsheets.
  • Remove the cotton ball or buds when you wake up in the next morning.
  • Wash the area where you put tea tree oil immediately so the stain will not stick hard.
  • If the stain remains, use hydrogen peroxide. Put a little amount of hydrogen peroxide in your toenail. Leave it there for a few minutes. Wash it thoroughly. This will make your toenail whiter.

• Yogurt. Yogurt has ingredients that help treat fungus.
• Preparations:
  • Put a small amount of yogurt in your index finger.
  • Rub the yogurt in your toenail where there is fungal infection.
  • Make sure that you have covered all areas of the toenail.
  • Leave the yogurt for a few minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly afterwards.

• Lime juice. Lime juice will help you lighten the discolored toenails due to fungal infection.
• Preparations:
  • Prepare a yogurt in a small container.
  • Mix a few drops of lime juice in the yogurt.
  • Stir the yogurt and lime juice until they are properly mixed.
  • Get a little amount of the mixture by using your index finger.
  • Apply the same in the toenail where there is fungal infection.
  • Leave it there for at least 20 minutes.
  • Wash it thoroughly.
