Bleaching to Treat Toenail Fungus
Half of all nail abnormalities is caused by a fungal infection in the nails called onychomycosis or what is commonly called toenail fungus. Although it does not affect only the toenails in general, as it is capable of infecting the fingernails as well, toenail infections are more common.
Symptoms of Toenail Fungus:
Having toenail fungus is not what you normally imagine of one having a disease. There are no body pains experienced, unless of course the infection has become severe. There are also no present bodily symptoms.
What you would notice though is that your nails will begin to become crumbly, rough, and it will show a yellow or cloudy appearance.
Causes of Toenail Fungal Infection
There are actually various causative agents that trigger onychomycosis. It includes dermatophytes, non-dermatophytic moulds, or Candida. The fungi is dermatophytes. It usually thrives in moist or warm environments, the reason why it is in Western countries with temperate climate and the tropics and subtropics where the infection is prevalent.
The Use of Bleach
- Bleach is one of the most unique remedies used in treating toenail fungus. Although the process seems tasking, it has effectively replaced doctor’s prescriptions, medications, and other homemade remedies. The use of bleach would take a half hour to consume, but others think it is difficult to perform this kind of treatment on a daily basis.
- Compared to other home remedies, bleach for toenail fungus is also cheaper. A weekly foot soak of one part bleach to a hundred parts of water is recommended by most cosmetologists. It decreases the chances of having the toenail fungal infection and it also leaves the foot clean and fresh.
- A stronger solution of one is to ten’”one part of chlorine bleach and ten parts of water’”is made to remove the infection as quickly as possible. In this kind of treatment, the solution has to be applied onto the affected area directly.
- Whatever the ratio of the bleach solution, it is best to trim the nails first, to make it thinner and easier to treat. The bleach creates an environment that is unsafe for the fungus. The bleach contains highly acidic material content that is no longer digestible for the fungus. The fungal infection dies later on.
