What are Lymph Nodes?

Lymph nodes can be found in various parts of a person’s body and are shaped like beans. These are part of a person’s lymphatic system, and they carry certain important elements to and from the bloodstream and the body’s tissues. Here are some of the areas where you can find lymph nodes, aside from under your jaw:

• Lymph nodes can be found on your head and neck area, specifically on both sides of your neck, behind the ears, and under your jaw.
  These are all part of the group of lymph nodes that are called cervical lymph nodes.
• Other lymph nodes can be found in the lower parts of your body like your chest, your armpits, abdomen, and your groin. These belong to the superficial lymph nodes group, the deep lymph nodes group, and the inguinal lymph nodes group.

Causes of Enlarged Jaw Lymph Nodes

Lymph nodes in any part of your body, including the ones under your jaw, sometimes swell for a number of reasons. These are usually due to injuries or illnesses or even due to a growth that can be found near this swollen lymph node. The reasons why they might swell include any of the following reasons:

• When you have a swollen lymph node under your jaw, chances are, you may have a sore throat or a cold.
  Cuts and bites within the area of your head can also trigger the swelling of a lymph node under your jaw.
• A swollen lymph node within the area of the neck, under the jaw, or other areas that can be found above your collarbone can also indicate a possible infection or tumor in your breasts, abdomen, lungs, or neck.
