When you find yourself with dry lips that is itchy, is warm to the touch, and burns like a sunburn, then you have sun-poisoned lips. This problem can be experienced due to dehydration, overexposure to the sun, and is usually the allergic reaction a person has when they have sunburns.
Home Remedies for Treating Sun Poisoned Lips Naturally
Sun-poisoned lips are similar in a lot of aspects to sunburned skin. Since there are a lot of remedies for sunburns that can be easily made from home, it is then easy to conclude that there are a lot of treatments for sun poisoned lips that can also be made at home.
- Aloe vera is a good way to help ease the sting of sunburn so it is also a good way to get rid of the sting that comes with sun poisoned lips. Simply squeeze out some aloe vera extract from a fresh leaf of the plant and smear this rather sticky liquid over the burns.
- Simply get a small face towel or clean piece of gauze and soak in a little bit of apple cider vinegar. Place this over the infected part of your lip for it to soothe the burns away.
- Cod liver oil can also be used to soothe the burned area of your lip. Simply smear a small drop or two of this oil over the burned area.
- Milk can also be used to ease the pain of sun-poisoned lips. Use whole milk and place this in a bowl. Soak in this milk a small piece of gauze or some cotton and place this over your burned lip.
- Combine some grated cucumber with some milk and apply this mixture to the areas of your lip that is burned or sun poisoned.
- Peel and grate a potato and place the grated potato over the sun-poisoned lips for a few minutes. Replace the grated potato once the cooling effect dies down.
- Honey mixed with a little bit of lemon juice can also be smeared on the sun poisoned lips to ease the sting and to cure it.
- Do not use lip balm or lip gloss since these have chemicals that can aggravate the burn or the sun poisoning.
- Combine an equal amount of margosa leaves, honey, turmeric powder, and basil leaves and grind these into a thick paste. Use on the burned part of your lips.
