What Causes Stomach Ache

Stomach pain is caused due to viral infection and in some cases due to bacteria and is also caused by stress, certain medicines, allergies and irritation due to chemicals. Self medication with pain-killers and antibiotics also cause stomach ache due to mucosal irritation also an attack can be triggered by aspirin or anti-arthritic medications. This weakens the stomach mucosa and becomes potent to viral infection. Stomach ache can also be caused due to excessive alcohol, food poisoning or bacterial infection. A particularly common cause of inflammation is food contaminated with staphylococci.

These bacteria form a toxin in the food and once it is eaten, food poisoning is likely to take place. Our body system tries to fight these intestinal invaders and in doing so entire intestinal tract contracts harder and faster and these contractions causes pain due to intestinal infection.

How to Prevent Stomach Ache

  1. Curl yourself around a heating pad or hot water bottle. The warmth may help minimize the cramps. Drink plenty of fluids and taking rest is very important.
  2. Avoid fatty foods and dairy products such as milk, ice-cream and cheese when you have stomach ache.
  3. Avoid raw eggs and cook chicken and turkey at high temperature and eat fresh food every day.
  4. Do not eat spicy, oily, greasy and rich food which is difficult to digest.
  5. Do not take beverages like colas, coffee and alcohol for they will intensify the symptoms.

Stomach Ache Home Remedies

  • Catnip tea is very useful and soothing in this condition. Add one teaspoon of leaves of catnip tea to a cup of water and let it steep for about 15 minutes and drink, this will help in relieving pain.
  • Mix three parts of spearmint and one part of ginger. Add one teaspoon of it to one cup of hot water and drink tea 2 to 3 times in a day to relieve the stomach ache.
  • Take charcoal tablets to reduce the gas. The Activated charcoal will absorb the gases and carry it off.
  • For relieving pain sit upright in the chair and apply heat over the stomach and sip hot water along with it.
