Sore eyes, sometimes called pink eye, is an ailment where a person suffers from itchy, red, and watery eyes that sometimes becomes inflamed. This ailment also goes by the medical term conjunctivitis, and this problem is often caused by a few possible reasons.

Sore eyes can be caused by viruses or by bacteria that come from someone who is infected with it.  And since it is highly contagious, if you find yourself with this problem, it would be best to avoid contact with others until it has passed. There are a few natural cures you can use to expedite healing and to help you deal with the itch that comes with it.

Symptoms and Causes of Conjunctivitis or Sore Eyes

The eyes become dry, red and burn; the eyeball and underside of the eyelids become inflamed; followed by watery secretion; pus maybe formed in severe cases; the eyelashes stick together when you sleep.

Natural Home Remedies and Cures for Sore and Pink Eyes

Some people use medicinal formulations and eye drops to help get rid of conjunctivitis or sore eyes.

Other people prefer to get rid of this “eye sore” the natural way. Here are some of the methods and ways for you to eliminate this problem naturally:

  • When you find yourself infected with conjunctivitis or pink eye, you can use this recipe to help minimize the itchiness and the redness you are experiencing. Put some fresh cow’s milk in a clean bowl then take a wad of cotton and soak it in this milk. Get some potash alum powder and sprinkle some if it on the cotton with milk. Use this cotton wad on your infected eye or eyes. Simply close your eyes and place this wet cotton wad over it for a few minutes.
  • Get some coriander leaves and grind them until you can extract some liquid out of them. Place this liquid in a dropper and put two drops of this natural, herbal remedy in your infected eyes at least twice a day. Helps with the itchiness of conjunctivitis and helps cure it as well.
  • Chamomile tea is also a good remedy for conjunctivitis. Simply get a cup of warm water and a teabag of chamomile tea and soak this tea the way you usually do with teas. Use the liquid on your eyes as a wash to help relieve the itchiness and the redness. You can also use the moist teabag over your eyes to help ease the itch and to soothe your eyes.
  • Aloe vera extract is known to help with a lot of ailments, and conjunctivitis is one of them. Just get some aloe vera extract and place this in some cool water. Soak a clean piece of cloth in this mixture and place this over your eyes or wipe your eyes with it.
  • Your diet can also help in expediting the relief you get from conjunctivitis. Drink lots of carrot juices and other vegetable juices during the early stages of the ailment to speed up the healing process.
  • A diet of fresh juicy fruit should be adopted for 7 days.
  • Bananas should be avoided.
  • In severe cases orange or carrot juice should be taken every 2 hours for 3-4 days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • After that a general diet should be followed. Breakfast -fresh fruit, lunch – whole wheat bread, butter, raw vegetable salad, Dinner – fresh fruit, nuts, 2-3 steamed vegetables.
  • Vitamin A found in tomatoes, papaya, mango, green leafy vegetable, whole milk, curds and butter and Vitamin B2 found in milk, almonds, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits and bananas are valuable in treating conjunctivitis.
  • Small hand towel should be wrung in cold water and placed over the eyes, cover it with a piece of warm cloth, carry out the procedure for 1hour. Then cover the eyes with a dry towel. Repeat the treatment every night for a week.
    Eye exercises are also beneficial.
