Sore gums can be very painful and can even bleed when left unattended. You should and can go to a dentist to have your sore gums treated. However, you may want to try a few home remedies to get rid of the pain and reduce some of the swelling before you do so. Here are a few of the old-fashioned remedies that have been used by people from different parts of the world to help get rid of sore gums.

Natural Home Remedies and Cures for Sore Gums

Sore gums is not a new ailment to man.

It has been, in fact, around for ages. Cures and remedies to help reduce the swelling and to help with the pain of bleeding or painful gums have also been around for quite some time. Here are a few remedies that have been used by man for just such a problem:

  • Bergamot oil is one such remedy used for sore gums and toothaches. Since bergamot oil is a natural antiseptic, it is often used to treat painful mouth sores and is used like a mouthwash to keep mouth infections and the worsening of gum sores from happening.
  • Some people have been using goldenseal to help treat sores on gums and in the mouth for ages. It is sometimes mixed with myrrh tincture and water and gargled with to help with these painful sores. Also useful for canker sores. Pregnant women should avoid using this however since it induces contractions.
  • Oregano and oregano oil is also known to have strong antiseptic qualities and have been used by Europeans in the olden days to help with sore gums and tooth decay. The oil is sometimes massaged directly onto a person’s sore gums or is placed in some warm water and gargled with.
  • Marigolds can be used for sore gums as well. A mixture of the juice of crushed marigold petals and some vinegar can be rubbed onto sore gums to ease the swelling and to keep infections down. It also helps to relieve the pain of the sore gums and even toothaches.
  • The bioflavonoids found in grapefruit have also been found to help with a person’s gums and to make them healthy.
  • Peppermint tea is something ancient Chinese use to cure sore gums and to relieve them of the pain it brings. Simply boil 5 grams of peppermint in one cup of water and add a little bit of salt to the mixture. Drink this mixture when it cools down as you would regular tea.
