Sinusitis is basically inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the Para-nasal sinuses (chambers on either side of the nasal passages). It often follows the common cold, influenza and other general infections.

Symptoms of Sinusitis
Running nose, excessive or constant sneezing, blockage of one or both nostrils, headaches and pressure around the head, eyes and face; toothache, loss of appetite, low grade fever, difficulty in breathing are the main symptoms.
- Over-secretion of mucous in the membrane lining the nose, throat and head, and congestion of sinus passages due to catarrh are the main cause.
- A faulty diet is however the real cause.
- Some persons become more sensitive to certain allergens, and the reaction ultimately leads to sinusitis.
Sinusitis Home Cure
- Most patients with sinus trouble suffer from acidity. They should therefore follow an alkaline diet.
- Intake of salt should be reduced.
- Avoid intake of starchy and fried foods, spices, meat, white flour and sugar, rice and citrus fruits.
- Perfumes and strongly scented hair oils should be avoided.
- Milk, vegetables and fruits should be taken in liberal quantities.
- Papaya, mango, tomato, leafy vegetables, carrot, curds, egg yolk, whole milk are rich in vitamin A and help build healthy mucous membrane in the head and throat and are useful against sinusitis.
- Garlic and onion are effective home remedies for sinus troubles. They help break up mucous congestion all through the respiratory tract. Begin with small doses and increase quantity gradually.
- Carrot juice used separately or in combination with spinach or beet and cucumber juice is highly beneficial.
- Water Treatment – cold application or alternate hot and cold applications over the sinuses have proved beneficial. Nasal inhalation of steam for 5 minutes every hour also provides relief.
- Yoga, fresh air, adequate rest and plenty of sleep are essential in treating sinus trouble.
