Detecting Sinusitis, Treating and Preventing Sinus problems

Sinuses can be inflamed when you have a cold, flu or allergies. Sinus can also act up to if you smoke or if you have passively inhaled the smoke or other environmental irritants or if you have a structural deformity of your nose that impair proper breathing.

Signs and Symptoms of Sinusitis

Excessive or constant sneezing, a running nose, blockage of one or nostrils, headache and pressure around the head, eyes and face are experienced. The face is very tender to touch, but not swollen.

Treat Sinus problems with these natural home remedies

  1. Garlic: The fresh juice of 3 to 4 garlic cloves, with 2 teaspoon of honey, should be taken twice a day. It is a proven antibacterial and analgesic.
  2. Onion: Fresh juice of onion, mixed in honey is also of great help in sinusitis.
  3. Black pepper: 5gms of black pepper should be powdered finely, and mixed in cup of warm milk. this if taken regularly helps to cure sinusitis.
  4. Take steam inhalation regularly.
  5. Try saline nasal spray as it helps as a decongestant. You can make your own by mixing 1 tablespoon of salt in pint of warm water. Put 2 to 3 drops of it in each nostril.
  6. Massage to open blocked sinuses. With one hand over each eye, rub steadily on the bony ridge located right below and above your eyes. Then rub directly below your eyes and just above your teeth. this may chase your pain away.
  7. Try warm compression to relieve sinus pain.
  8. Drink plenty of fluids to help dilute secretions and keeps mucus flowing.

How can I prevent sinusitis

There are ways you can avoid to prevent sinusitis.

  1. Sinusitis is becoming much more prevalent because of our changing environment. All the pollutants in the air have an adverse effect on the sinuses. Try to avoid such surroundings where you may get affected.
  2. Cigarette smoking can also create sinus pain. If you have mild sinusitis and you smoke it will progress in spite of treatment to a more severe condition.
  3. Avoid alcohol because drinking causes blood vessels to swell, resulting in less drainage, more pain and greater risk of infection.
  4. At home try to keep atmosphere humidified in a comfortable range.
