What Is Pimple And Acne?

Pimples or acne as it is known in medical language is a classic stigma of adolescence. It is more common in 2nd or 3rd decade of life. Pimples predominantly affect the face, back and chest and sometimes on shoulders.

Causes of Pimple

  • Increase in sebum production.
  • Abnormality of microbial flora.
  • Inflammation.

Other Exacerbating Factors

  • Stress, pre-menstrual phase, occupational exposure, patients on drugs like steroids, hormones and anti-epileptic drugs.
  • Genetic factors also play role in development of pimples.

Formation of micro-comedone is the primary lesion of acne. It may be open (blackhead) or closed (whitehead). Later there is formation of comedone, producing papules, pustules and cysts. This can lead to pits and scarring also.

How to Prevent Pimple and Acne?

  1. Wash the face with soap and water at least 4-5 times a day.
  2. Avoid foods like chocolates, ice-cream, pork fat, oily, spicy food etc.
  3. Do not prick or squeeze the pimple. This can cause scar.
  4. Check for the associated dandruff and treat it simultaneously.
  5. See to it that the bowel movements are regular.
  6. Drink lots of water. At least 10-12 glasses of water daily.

Home Remedies and Natural Cures for Pimples

  • A paste is prepared out of cumin seeds and this is applied over pimples. It gives quick relief.
  • Paste of red sandalwood and turmeric mixed in milk is an effective local application.
  • Fresh juice made of tender leaves of holy basil is to be applied externally daily.
  • Apply apple pulp on the face. It helps getting rid of acne.
  • Orange peel is an effective home remedy for pimple treatment. Orange peel is pounded and little water is added in order to formation of pulp. This is to be applied over the face and kept till it dries. Then rinse it off. Apply daily packs for better results.
  • Coriander and mint juice is mixed with turmeric powder and applied over as face pack. Rinse it off after 15-20min.
