Noise in Stomach
When a person suffers from a noisy stomach, he or she may suffer from embarrassment when their stomach gurgles while there are other people around. Why does a stomach make such noises? Here are some reasons why you might have a noisy stomach:
- When a person is hungry, it is very possible that their stomach will make a rumbling, growling, or gurgling noise.
- A noisy stomach can also happen when a person just ate and is digesting the food that is in the stomach.
- The passing of food from your stomach and into the intestines have also been seen as one of the reasons why your tummy might make a rumbling or grumbling noise.
- Sometimes seeing food can trigger your stomach to make some noise to indicate that you are hungry.
Stomach Noises Symptoms and Causes
As normal as stomach noises may be, there are times when they do indicate that a person is suffering from an illness or has a problem in the stomach area. Here are some of the possible medical reasons why a person may have a noisy stomach:
- Irritable bowel syndrome can be a cause for a noisy stomach. When your grumbling tummy is accompanied by other symptoms like cramping, bloating, diarrhea, or gas, this ailment can be the reasons for the rumbling of your stomach.
- You might have diarrhea and that may be the reason why your stomach is growling. This is often accompanied by stomach cramps and the intense need to discharge.
- Ulcers and hyperacidity problems can also be the culprits when it comes to a growling stomach. Acid causes the stomach to produce gas that can then trigger the stomach to make noises.
Remedies and Treatments to Stop Noise in Stomach
Trying to get your stomach to settle down when it is making embarrassing noises can be done but usually only during the times when these episodes occur. Here are some things you can do when this happens:
- Munch on crackers if you cannot eat a meal yet. Your stomach will quiet down for a while until you do get yourself down to eating a meal to appease it.
- Ginger ale usually does the trick. A warm 7-Up is also helpful. This is a remedy for a noisy stomach that is due to gas. This will encourage you to expel that gas by belching or by passing it the other way and stop the rumbling of your stomach.
- If acid and hyperacidity seems to be the cause of your noisy stomach, acid inhibitors are sometimes useful to have.
