What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a common abdominal complaint linked with digestion, and develops in late adolescent or early adulthood. Food leaves the stomach and moves along the small and large intestine by wave like contraction and relaxation of the intestinal wall muscles. But when the muscles go into spasms the result is either diarrhea or constipation.
Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

- Physiological disorder or emotional stress
- Consumption of gas-producing foods like broccoli, beans.
- Eating high-fat foods like margarine, bacon and vegetable oil may cause flare-ups.
- Inability to digest lactose (milk sugar) also produces the same symptoms.

- Avoid milk products if you are lactose-intolerant.
- Diarrhea may be caused by artificial sweetener, avoid it.
