Jock Itch Causes, Symptoms, Cure, Treatment, Home Remedies
What is Jock Itch? What are the causes of Jock Itch?
Jock Itch is a fungal infection in the groin area, common in men. Jock Itch typically affects the skin of inner thighs and buttocks. Jock itch normally occurs in men who sweat a lot, or are obese. But this fungal itch may not be limited only to these people. The fungus that causes jock itch is often same type that causes athletes foot.
What are the Symptoms of Jock Itch
- Red, itchy, scaly patches on the groin, genitals, inner thighs and buttocks.
- Blisters secrete pus
- Irritation in the skin in your groin area
Causes of Jock Itch
- Moisture allows fungi to thrive and cause jock itch.
- In obese people, often their thighs rub against each other when they walk – this causes your skin to get tender.
- People who sweat heavily, the sweat in absorbed by the clothes in that area which keeps it moist.
- Unhygienic lifestyle can cause jock itch fungus to grow and spread: like not washing and cleaning up regularly, wearing the same clothes for days together, and not keeping your groin area dry.
Home Remedies for Jock Itch
- Clean the affected area daily with plain water.
- Apply a light layer of anti-fungal cream, twice daily and continue using it for a week even after the rash has cleared.
Preventing and Treating Jock Itch
- Obese people should exercise regularly to lose weight.
- Workout gear should be clean and changed daily.
- Take a bath daily; After bathing to keep the groin area dry, use cornstarch free powder
- Do not share your undergarments
- Do not wear thick clothes during hot and humid weather; wear something light and not so fit clothes – that will make you sweat less.
- If you sweat a lot and find that your under garments are moist with sweat, change and wear a clean and dry one after you clean up with a bath and after you dry yourself.
In short, to treat jock itch or to avoid this skin infection, stay dry, clean and maintain good hygienic habits.
