Question: I’m a 44 year old lady having menorrhagia and hot flushes. Are there any treatments?

Menorrhagia is an irregularity in the menstrual function, in which there is a copious amount of blood flow or a protracted menstrual flow or both.

What is your menstrual history? Too prolonged? Too copious? Or too often? Are there blood clots? Is there any white-yellow discharge?

Hot Flushes Causes:

There are a host of causes that are responsible for this disorder:

  • A low level of calcium in the body – This is especially true if you fit into the bracket of Peri-menopausal.

  • Toxicity in the body

Hot flushes treatment:

  • Diet rich in milk, yogurt, and fish would be highly effective for you. Increase your intake of these foods. They are packed with calcium.
  • Alongside it would be advisable to start a calcium supplement.
  • At the same time step up your intake of vitamin D. Rich sources include – egg, milk, and fish oils.
  • It is very essential to avoid stimulants in any form. They further enhance the flow of blood. (coffee, tea, , alcohol, spices)
  • Fruits and vegetables are nature’s body-detoxifying and health re-establishing foods. They must form the volume of your diet.
  • Keep away from refined foods.
  • Beet juice is the most effective remedy in the management of any menstrual abnormality. It is invaluable and must be had daily.
  • Ginger tea also has proved to be extremely valuable in the management of menstrual complaints.
  • Smoking, if a practice, must be stopped at all costs.
  • Stress in any form is detrimental to you, whether mental or physical. Hence, stress should be circumvented at all costs.
  • The period of 40-50 is peri-menopausal. That is, you will soon enter menopause. Menstrual irregularities are common at this age. How is the present menstrual history different from the past?
