Hormonal Imbalance Causes and Treatments

Hormonal imbalance can cause various ailments such as hot flushes, sleep deprivation; metabolism of calcium is disturbed, mental instability and irritability, giddiness, back pain, headache, urinary bladder complaints, skin dryness and early aging, difficulty in breathing and palpitation of heart. This is common during menopause or cessation of menses. Cessation of function of ovary or menstrual cycle also causes hormonal imbalance.

Preventing Hormonal Imbalance

  • Diet should contain high protein and less carbohydrate during time of hormonal imbalance. Maintain adequate supply of calcium, magnesium and iron. All products which act a toxins in the body should be eliminate such as all refined and processed food, all junk food, and all things which contain white flour and sugar products.
    Do not take dairy products and animal products. Milk is a rich source of calcium and vitamin D which gets depleted during this time. One should take two glasses of milk every day.
  • Things to be completely avoided are tobacco, coffee, alcohol, all sugary products, spicy food, all aerated drinks and hot soups. All these products are known to cause emotional swings and more acid is released into body causing bones to act more by releasing calcium for pH balancing and thus resulting in weakening of bones if no supplementary calcium is taken.
  • Drink two liter of water to prevent dryness and maintain hydration of mucous membrane and skin.
  • Exercise such as jogging, swimming, walking is beneficial and should be continued.
  • Avoid mental worry and anxiety.
  • Sound sleep and relaxation is very important.

Home Remedies for Hormonal Imbalance

  • Liquorices or mulethi is a natural source of female hormone- estrogen which is required during this condition. This can be taken one teaspoon in warm milk two times in a day till symptoms subside.
  • Substitute garlic and onion powder for salt. Consuming salt increases urinary excretion of calcium.
  • Withania somniferous or commonly called as ‘aswagandha’ is also useful in treatment for hormone imbalance . This helps to calm down irritable behavior in females with hormonal imbalance. This should be taken in dose of 5gm powder mixed in warm milk. This preparation is taken two times in a day. It effectively stops the emotional turmoil associated with hormonal imbalance usually during menopause.
  • Mix two parts each of squaw vine, rue, red raspberry leaves, and white pond lily with one part of ginger root, chamomile, and spearmint. Boil this in water in close lid. After cooling take two teaspoon 3-4 times in a day till symptoms subside.
