Hickey Marks: Treatment and Home Remedies for Unsightly Kiss Marks
How to Remove Hickey Marks
It may have happened to you once or twice. Your partner got carried away by what you were both doing and left you with numerous kiss marks or hickeys. This may be fine if they were in places that can be hidden by clothing, but they are far from acceptable, especially if you are going out in public, going to work or going to school, and they can be easily seen or are highly visible.
Home Remedies and Treatment for Hickey (Unsightly Kiss) Marks
You’ve had your fun, now it’s time to get down to the task of getting rid of the evidence of such fun. Getting rid of hickeys can be easily done-if you know how. Aside from using the usual makeup concealer route, here are some ways you can easily remove or mask that hickey:
- Once you find that you have a hickey, immediately apply an ice pack to the spot.Get a few ice cubes and place it in a clean plastic bag. Place this bag on the bruised part of your body and keep it there for at least ten minutes. To minimize the sting of the ice, you can wrap this plastic bag in a piece of cloth or a handkerchief.
- You can try to minimize the darkness of a hickey by using a hot compress. Simply get a washcloth, a hand towel, or a face towel and soak in hot water that you can handle. Place this warm towel or cloth on the bruised area for at least 5 minutes. Repeat when the towel cools down. Do this at least twice in one day.
- Aloe vera is also a natural cure for hickeys. Prepare the bruised part for smearing with aloe vera gel by washing it with cold water. Wipe dry and apply fresh aloe vera extract or aloe vera gel to the spot with the hickey.
- Try applying a poultice of peppermint tea leaves or damp tea bags of peppermint tea over the hickey. Speed up the healing process by drinking peppermint tea as well.
- Massaging a hickey can also make it disappear faster. Here is a way you can do it. Get a spoon and put it in ice water. Get some lotion and smear it on the spot with the hickey. After applying the lotion, use the cold spoon to massage the hickey, making sure you are moving the spoon in all directions away from the bruise. Repeat this procedure when the spoon gets warm.
- When you find that the hickey is still somewhat visible, you can use a green-tinted concealer to try and mask the remaining hickey. For guys, you will probably need to wear a bandage or Band-Aid over the bruise and say it’s a small wound or an insect bite.
