Headache indicates that something is wrong somewhere in the body. Pain arises from irritation to the nerve endings in the shoulder, neck and scalp-muscles and in smooth muscles encircling the blood vessels.

Causes of Headaches

Some common causes of headaches are

  • Eyestrain.
  • Infection.
  • Tension.
  • Emotional reasons.
  • Nutritional deficiency.
  • Hangover.
  • High B.P..
  • Allergy, migraine, presence of toxins and poisons in the body.
  • Low blood sugar and anemia.


Treatment of Headache

  • Immerse your leg in hot water to calf level for 15-20 minutes to get relief from headache due to high B.P.
  • For headaches due to heavy consumption of alcohol and resultant hangover, take Vitamin B1 (thiamine) tablet with the drink.
  • Vitamin C is highly beneficial for headaches occurring due to infection and cold.
  • Few teaspoons of Brewers yeast should be taken regularly for headaches arising due to anemia. It is an excellent source of iron.
  • For low blood sugar headaches, eat smaller meals at short intervals than larger meals.
  • Avoid coffee, carbohydrate intake should be cut down.
  • For any Vitamin B deficiency headache, take the entire B-Complex range.
  • Try to relieve the stress, tension and emotional conflicts that is producing headache.

Migraine Headaches

Migraine is severe headache that generally occurs on one side of the head. It is associated with disorders of digestion, liver and vision. It usually occurs when a person is under great mental tension or has got over the state.


Symptoms of Migraine Headaches

  • Pain lasts around 3 days.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Blurring vision, black spots or zigzag line appear before the eyes, or partly blank vision.
  • The headache is usually accompanied by weakness in an arm or leg and tingly and numb feeling.
  • Patients are usually compulsive workers due to which the head and neck muscles are overworked and continuously stressed.
  • When they relax, blood is pushed through the vessels (which expands) and causes pain.


Treatment of Migraine Headaches

  • People should involve themselves in simple chores.
  • They should build physical resistance through constructive thinking, exercise and proper nutrition.
  • Breakfast – Both fresh and dried fruits or glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Lunch – largely protein foods.
  • Dinner – Raw salads, whole-wheat bread/cereals/rice or potato.


Water Treatment for Migraine Headaches

  • Copious drinking water, cold throat pack, hot foot bath, cleansing enema, apply towels wrung in hot water to the back of the neck frequently.
  • Apply cold compress to the head and face.
  • Apply hot fomentation to the abdominal region before sleeping for headaches due to stomach and liver.
