Halitosis refers to bad breath common in many people at all times and in all people some of the time.

Causes of Halitosis

  • Dental decay at the roots of the teeth, pus and gum conditions have germs that multiply and release foul odors.
  • Anemia, chronic infection or local upsets such as chronic gastritis, chronic bronchitis and sinuses.
  • Chronic constipation, intestinal sluggishness and other gastro-intestinal disorders; smoking, chewing pan and tobacco are other factors.


Treatment of Halitosis

  • Avoid refined carbohydrate food and sugars, fleshy foods and eggs.
  • Drink 6-8 glasses of water.
  • Eat 6-8 soaked prunes, few dried and soaked figs for breakfast and even drink the water in which it was soaked.
  • Teeth should be cleaned twice a day especially before going to bed. Particles should be removed with toothpicks.
  • Munch an apple after lunch or dinner to remove trapped particles. Avoid overeating.
  • Avocado removes intestinal decomposition and prevents bad breath.
  • Mouthwash prepared from parsley and cloves is highly beneficial. Add chopped parsley, and ΒΌ teaspoon ground cloves to 2 cups of boiling water, strain it and gargle several times.
  • Chew unripe guavas or its tender leaves to stop bad breath and bleeding from gums.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds to1/2 liter water simmer for 15 minutes, strain and use as tea.
  • All fruit and vegetable juices are beneficial in the treatment of halitosis.
  • Exercise eradicates constipation that causes bad breath.
