After drinking carbonated beverage or eating a hearty meal, excessive air builds up due to a distressed stomach, and burping or belching is the escape of air to relieve the condition.   • There are certain foods that cause more gas and burps, avoid such food as burping will make the acid reflux condition worse. Cabbage, legumes and beans, Brussels and sprouts and milk should be avoided.
  • Acid reflux gets exaggerated when excess of air is swallowed. This swallowed air gives rise to burps and belching which further worsens acid reflux problem.

  • Unconscious swallowing of excess air can cause belching. So make an effort to swallow less. The causes for belching mentioned above should be avoided.

  • Avoiding tea, coffee and aerated drinks will bring great relief in burping.
  • Avoiding smoking and gas causing food will also help to relieve acid reflux and burping.
  • Eating small meals, mild walking after meals, discontinuing acidic food and citric fruits will make a substantial difference in treating acid reflux and burping.
  • Take a few sips of water after meals to check if it helps.
