Enteric Fever: Symptoms, Treatment and Home Remedies for Typhoid Fever

Question: Doctor, please I had enteric fever (typhoid fever) 4 months ago and treated it with cipro, though it has come down but for the past months I have been feeling headache, tiredness, weakness, abdominal pain, fever and loss of appetite.

Can you please suggest me some home remedies or treatment to cure my above symptoms?

I want to ask which drug again can I use to cure it forever? I have heard that typhoid kills, is it true?

This is my Son’s Widal test report:
    O ANTIGEN AGGLUTINATION ABSENT
    H ANTIGEN AGGLUTINATION ABSENT
    AH ANTIGEN AGGLUTINATION ABSENT
    BH ANTIGEN AGGLUTINATION ABSENT
NOTE: Agglutination titers of 1:120 and above are significant and demonstration of rise in titers on repetition of test after a few days confirms the diagnosis of enteric fever.

I suffered from typhoid and battled for 3 months, almost fainted in the hospital. Now it’s cured and my blood report says its negative; though it’s been more than a year I don’t feel I am completely cured, as my hands and feet remain cold and my forehead is warm, most of the time I feel chilly (during winter n cold season), I feel weak and drowsy all time, breasts pain and body too. Am I supposed to stay like this for the rest of my life? I want my healthy life, can anyone help?

I had low grade fever since three months and doctors diagnosed typhoid. I took a 10 days course of safspan. But after 2-3 days fever returned. Besides, I have some problem since 3-4 months. One breast size and texture has changed and I felt pain during periods. Ultrasound reveals a small area of heterogeneous mass. Doctors advise to biopsy. But I do not want to do this.

      Fever management

      - Soak 10 to 20 raisins in a bowl of water. Let them sit for a couple of hours. Once they swell, puree them along with the water in which they were kept. This is the best tonic to relieve fever. 2 to 3 doses per day, are recommended. Also, raisins are chockfull of energy, so it will help her regain strength.

      - Give her turmeric mixed with hot milk. This will hasten cure, since turmeric is a potent anti-bacterial and anti-viral.

      - Most importantly, her diet should be correct. Let her eat plenty of fruits and lightly cooked vegetables. Fluids such as coconut water, soups, juices, barley water, and vegetable stock should be taken frequently through the day.

Complete the course of medications. She might have to discontinue breast feeding, while she takes the drugs. Sufficient care is of essence, since typhoid is notorious for recurrence and chronicity.
