Defective vision or eye defects results from the functional derangement, which can be rectified by natural simple methods. Excessive reading in dull light; reading in moving buses and cars, watching T.V. and eating artificial food are factors responsible for this.

Causes of Defective Vision

  • Improper blood and nerve supply.
  • Mental strain (anxiety, fear and overwork).
  • Wrong diet (excessive protein, starch and sugar ingestion) are the chief causes.

The Cure of Defective Vision

1. Eye Exercises

  • Loosen the contracted and strained muscles around the eyes.
  • Keep your head still and relaxed and move the eyes up and down 6 times as far as possible.
  • Move eyes from side to side as far as possible 6times. Repeat it 2-3 times.
  • Index finger of your right hand should be held 8 inches away in front of the eyes, then look from the finger to any large object about 10 feet away, and look from one to the other ten times.
  • Move the eyes in a circular motion, then in reverse direction about 4 times. Rest for a second. Repeat the movements 2-3 times.

2. Neck Exercises

  • Rotate the neck in circles and semicircles.
  • Move the shoulders clockwise and anticlockwise several times.
  • Drop the head forward and backward as far as possible.
  • Turn the head to the right and left as far as possible several times.

3. Sun-gazing

  • For inflamed eyes and for short sight, close your eyes and sit facing the sun and sway your eyes sideways several times for 18 minutes.
  • Open eyes and blink about 10 times at the sun and look at greenery.

4. Splashing water

Splash cold water on closed eyes several times and then rub-off.

5. Palming

Sit on a chair and cover your eyes gently with respective hands and allow the elbows to drop to your knees and imagine blackness. This relaxes the eyes.

6. Swinging

  • Stand in front of window or object with feet 12 inches apart and hands loosely at the sides, gently sway the body from side to side with only heels rising.
  • Blink once when you face one end of the window or object.

7.Yoga

  • Yoga is also very good.

8. Diet

  • Natural, uncooked, fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, dried fruits and nuts are the best.
  • Sufficient quantities of Vitamin A should be taken as a safeguard or in treatment of defective vision.
