Home Remedies for Dark Skin | Lightening and Treating Dark Skin

Some women and some men seem to be troubled by dark skin and dark pigmentations on their skin. Whitening can be done with the use of certain whitening agents that can be purchased in drug stores and beauty product shops. Some people however, want to try and lighten their dark skin by using natural lightening agents that they can either obtain from the grocery near them or with items that they can easily find in their home.

Treatment and Home Remedies for Lightening Your Dark Skin

When you find that you want to lighten your skin a bit but without having to resort to store-bought bleaching agents or skin whitening products, you may want to try and use these homemade remedies:

  • Mix together a cup of lime juice and a cup of lemon juice and use in your daily bath.
    Just get a wash cloth and rub this mixture over your skin when bathing. Leave this on your skin for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse off.
  • A variation to the lime juice and lemon juice mixture is the combination of cucumber juice with any of these two citrus extracts. Mix equal parts of cucumber juice and lime or lemon juice and use this when bathing. You can also leave this mixture on your face overnight and then rinse off in the morning to treat dark facial skin.
  • Another possible skin lightening agent you can easily find at home is apple cider vinegar. You can use a cup of diluted apple cider vinegar on your face as an overnight mask to help lighten dark skin. You can also use a pure version of apple cider vinegar as a body wash to lighten the skin on your body. Use it as you would the lemon and vinegar mixture. Make sure to apply moisturizer afterwards as this can dry your skin up a bit.

Preventing Darkening of Skin

You can actually avoid getting darker skin by changing some of your daily habits and even what you eat. Here are some tips on how to get fairer skin through prevention and without having to use sometimes harmful whitening agents and lotions:

  • Try to avoid eating foods that are too oily. These substances sometimes promote the darkening of your skin.
  • Try to add more whole grain cereals, vegetables and fresh fruits into what you eat every day.
  • Try to keep yourself hydrated. Try to take in more water than is often required to help keep skin healthy and to help facilitate the flushing out of toxins and impurities in your body. These toxins are sometimes the culprits behind dark spots on your skin so flushing them out can help prevent dark skin and dark spots.
