- Due to hard fecal matter there is infrequency, difficulty and irregularity of elimination.
- Loss of appetite, foul breath, nausea, mouth ulcerand coated tongue.
- Headache, pimples on the face, fullness of abdomen, heart burn, acidity.
- Constipation alternating with diarrhea, varicose veins and depression.
Causes of Constipation
- Faulty style of living and wrong diet are main causes for chronic constipation.
- Maximum food today is deficient in natural roughage (which promotes passage of food down the alimentary canal).
- Refined foods, meat, excess tea and coffee and overeating.
- Insufficient chewing and less intake of water.
- Use of purgatives.
- Lack of exercises.
- Stress and strain.
- Irregular habit of defecation.
- Weakness of abdominal muscles are other factors.
- Certain medical conditions also promote constipation.
Natural remedies for Constipation
- Follow a natural and simple diet that includes lots of natural fiber and chew it properly.
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day.
- About 60gms of fresh bel fruit before dinner serves as a laxative for hardened stools. Use it regularly for 2-3 months.
- Medium sized pear or guava with seeds taken at breakfast or after dinner are beneficial and helps in normal evacuation of the bowels.
- For chronic constipation an exclusive use of this fruit or juice should be adopted for few days.
- Soak raisins in water for 24 hours and eat them early in the morning to relieve chronic constipation.
- Swallow 1 teaspoon of linseed oil with water before each meal.
- Drink water kept in copper vessel overnight.
- Drinking hot water with sour lime and little salt.
- Bowels should be cleaned daily with warm water enema. For stubborn-cases short fast for 4-5 days with orange juice and for ordinary-cases exclusive fruit diet for about 7 days is advisable. This is to be followed by a balanced diet comprising of sufficient raw ripe fruits and whole grain cereals.
- A cold friction bath taken daily in the morning or alternate hot and cold hip bath before going to bed is also beneficial.
- Abdominal exercise, yoga, massage, toning up the muscles, fresh air, walking, swimming are helpful.
