Conjunctivitis home remedies
Conjunctivitis or Sore Eyes occurs when the thin transparent membrane covering the front of the eye is inflamed . It causes sore eyes that spreads from person to person due to direct contact.
Symptoms of Conjunctivitis or Sore Eyes
The eyes become dry, red and burn; the eyeball and underside of the eyelids become inflamed; followed by watery secretion; pus maybe formed in severe cases; the eyelashes stick together when you sleep.
Causes of Conjunctivitis or Sore Eyes
- Eyestrain, viruses and bacterial infection are the main factors of conjunctivitis.
- Excessive use of eyes.
- Continuous work under artificial lights.
- Faulty style of living and dietetic errors leads to catarrh condition.
- The patient generally suffers from colds.
Home remedies for curing Conjunctivitis or Sore Eyes
- A diet of fresh juicy fruit should be adopted for 7 days.
- Bananas should be avoided.
- In severe cases orange or carrot juice should be taken every 2 hours for 3-4 days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- After that a general diet should be followed. Breakfast –fresh fruit, lunch – whole wheat bread, butter, raw vegetable salad, Dinner – fresh fruit, nuts, 2-3 steamed vegetables.
- Vitamin A found in tomatoes, papaya, mango, green leafy vegetable, whole milk, curds and butter and Vitamin B2 found in milk, almonds, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits and bananas are valuable in treating conjunctivitis.
- Small hand towel should be wrung in cold water and placed over the eyes, cover it with a piece of warm cloth, carry out the procedure for 1hour. Then cover the eyes with a dry towel. Repeat the treatment every night for a week.
- Eye exercises are also beneficial.
