Symptoms of Common cold
- Nasal passage is congested.
- Sore throat.
- Loss of appetite.
- Sneezing and running nose.
- Skin around nostrils become sore.
- Headache, chills, aches and pains in the body.
Causes of Common cold
- Exposure to a virus causes common cold and its intensity depends on health of the person and environmental factors.
- Sudden changes in temperature.
- Dust.
- Irritating inhalations.
- Lack of sleep.
- Allergy.
- Fatigue.
- Lowered vitality.
- Depression.
- Chilling of the body.
- The real cause however is wrong feeding habits that includes excess intake of proteins, carbohydrates, starches that creates a toxic condition, which is expelled from the body in the form of cold.
Treatments of Common cold
- The patient should fast for 2 days on warm water mixed with honey and lemon juice or juice and hot water.
- Pineapple juice is highly beneficial and warm water enema should be administered regularly; followed by an exclusive fruit diet for 3 days and finally a well-balanced diet should be adopted.
- Vitamin C found in citrus fruit, sprouted green and Bengal gram and green leafy vegetables acts as antibiotic and protects against infection, prevents common cold and large doses relieves symptoms and shortens duration.
- Lime juice diluted in a glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon of honey increases resistance and decreases toxicity. It reduces duration of illness and is an ideal remedy for cold and dry cough.
- Smoke from burning turmeric should be inhaled in case of running nose; 1/2 teaspoon of fresh turmeric mixed with warm milk is effective for throat irritation and cold.
- Boil small pieces of ginger in water, strain it and mix ½ teaspoon of sugar and drink while it is hot. Even ginger tea is beneficial.
- Garlic acts as an antiseptic and antispasmodic. Garlic oil and onion juice, diluted with water and drunk several times a day is extremely effective.
- Hot water bath, steam bath, hot packs or fomentation, steam inhalation, gargling with hot water are beneficial.
- Fresh air and deep breathing, mild sunbath, sound sleep, brisk walking, yoga and wearing clothing as per the season are useful measures.
