- Our stomach and intestines has a function of digestion of food that we eat. The left over is passed on to the colon. Inability of the stomach and intestine leads to bloated stomach or belching.The food that is passed on to the colon is processed or process of fermentation takes place and there is release of gas called as flatulence. But, if this process of slowed down then there is increase in the amount of gas and flatulence.
- As many as 30-40% people experience bloating and flatulence, which they attribute to gastric trouble.
- Certain habits which may cause bloated stomach are smoking cigar or pipe, habitual belching, ill fitted dentures, chewing gums, sucking on candies, drinking carbonated drinks and eating too many beans in your meals etc. certain medicines can also cause bloated stomach e.g. narcotics and calcium channel blockers.
Precautions To Prevent Bloated Stomach And Gas In Stomach
- Slow down when you eat. Chew the food carefully. Don’t talk while eating.
- Don’t lie down immediately after eating. Sleep after 1½-2 hrs after food. Drink enough amount of water.
- Eliminate colas and carbonated drinks. Cut down processed and tinned food. Cut down on fatty substances. Reduce undue stress.
- Have a good sound sleep (6-8hrs).
- Take simple food as far as possible and avoid all that is difficult to digest.
- Drink warm water to stimulate peristalsis of the intestine and thus improving digestion. To warm water one can add little pudina (mint leaves), dalchini (cinnamon) and ginger extract.
Home Remedies To Get Rid Of From Bloated And Gas In Stomach
- Take equal amount of hing (asafetida), kala-namak (black salt), elaichi (cardamom), sonth (dried ginger powder) and kantakaari. Mix these powders thoroughly. Take it in a dose of 3-5gms as and when required and depending upon the severity.
- Mix one part of ajmoda (celery seeds) and half part of saunf (aniseeds) and add some sugar to it. This preparation is taken after your meals (one teaspoon). This helps in relieving flatulence.
- Sonth (dried ginger powder) and ajwain (celery seeds) in equal weight should be grounded in double the quantity of lime juice. After mixing thoroughly this is kept to dry. Add little kala-namak to it. This preparation should be taken as and when needed (half teaspoon).
