I have had this funny feeling in my mouth for just a few days now. I’ve never had thrush but what I have heard from other it sounds like that. My tongue is not white but everything that I have tried to eat tastes bland. It’s not really a metallic taste. I do chew the sides of my mouth. A lot here lately and have drawn blood a couple of times but I’ve done this before and had never experienced this before. Can you help?

Hi, I have a bitter to sour taste in my mouth, like the one you get when you wake up in the morning. But in my case its serious and it does occur during the day, it is also accompanied with stomach discomfort, bloating. I understand it is gastrointestinal, but I don’t know what I am eating that causes it or what’s wrong with my stomach. No bitter/sour taste has no odor or bad breathe. Help

What sort of taste is it? Is it bitter? Or does your breath feel bad?

A bitter taste in the mouth could be associated with a host of gastro-intestinal disorders. It could be anything from pyorrhea, stomatitis, jaundice, constipation, worms, to anemia.
Are there any other accompanying complaints?

Health check guide:

- Is the breath foul?
- Do you suffer from constipation often?
- Have there been bouts of fever?

Management for oral hygiene:

1. Chew on 5 fresh leaves of the holy basil daily. Basil freshens the mouth and drives away bad breath.

2. Early in the morning gargle your mouth with fenugreek tea. The tea is a decoction of the fenugreek seeds in boiling water. Fenugreek is a brilliant antibacterial.

3. Importantly brush your teeth twice a day, and do not forget to clean the tongue.

Beware!

Refrain from chewing on gum or using mouth fresheners. They are not recommended.
