Arthritis is inflammation of the joints due to reaction of joint tissues. Initially the whole body maybe involved and one or two joints may become completely out of shape. The most common forms are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Osteoarthritis

In older people structural changes in the cartilages in the joint cause degenerative joint disease usually in weight-bearing joints like knees and spine.

Symptoms of Osteoarthritis

  • Stiffness and pain in the joints.
  • Leg cramps.
  • Arteriosclerosis.
  • Dry neck.
  • Allergies and watery eyes.
  • Liver and gall bladder functions are affected.

Causes of Osteoarthritis

Obesity, malnutrition, glandular insufficiency, and shortage in Hydrochloric acid, calcium deficiency and continuous physical stress.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a serious disease that affects the muscles, tendons and other tissues of the body besides joints. The lining of the joints is inflamed accompanied by swelling and finally deformity.

Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Deformed hands and feet.
  • Anemia.
  • Low B.P.
  • Constipation.
  • Gall bladder disturbances.
  • Colitis.

Causes of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Injury, emotional and physical stress, hormonal imbalances, shock, infection, severe fright and hereditary factors.

Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Alkaline foods like fruits and vegetables for protection, proteins and carbohydrates for energy should be included in the diet.
  • In severe cases the patient should be put on raw vegetable juice therapy for a week. Juice of green leafy vegetable mixed with beet, carrot and celery is specific for arthritis. Fresh pineapple juice is also good.
  • Fresh potato juice extracted and mixed with water on 50:50 basis drunk on empty stomach is good for rheumatic and arthritic conditions.
  • Wearing copper bracelet, ring or drinking water kept overnight in a copper container.
  • Black gingelly seeds and water in which it was soaked should be drunk in the morning to prevent frequent pains.
  • Green gram soup mixed with crushed garlic and 1teaspoon of powdered fenugreek seeds in warm water should be taken everyday.
  • Lime also serves the same purpose.
  • Warm coconut oil or mustard oil mixed with camphor should be massaged in case of stiff and aching joints.
  • Body should be kept warm always. Sea bathing/ or relaxing 30 minutes every night in a tub of warm water to which a cupful of sea-salt has been mixed.
  • Constipation should be avoided.
  • Excess weight should be lost; light weight exercises like walking, swimming and hiking are beneficial.
  • Rest is also equally important.
  • Hot foot baths, knee pack applied an hour every night, steam baths and massage once a week are beneficial.
