Arteriosclerosis is a disease of blood vessels wherein the walls of the arteries thicken due to the presence of lime or calcium. The elasticity of the blood vessels is lost and the narrowing of the arteries interferes with the circulation of blood.

Symptoms of Arteriosclerosis

  • Cramps and pain in the legs, numbness and coldness in the feet are the main symptoms.
  • If coronary arteries have narrowed due to the deposition of calcium there is sharp pain characteristic of angina pectoris.
  • If this happens with arteries leading to kidney - high B.P. and kidney disorders take place.
  • And for arteries leading to brain - the vessel bursts leading to hemorrhage.
  • If there is a blockage with a clot - stroke with partial or complete paralysis on one side of the body may take place and in elderly people it may lead to confused state of mind and loss of memory.

Causes of Arteriosclerosis

  • Wrong diets that contain excess of hydrogenated and saturated fat.
Refined and processed foods and white-sugar; meat, strong tea and coffee, pickles.
  • Sedentary life, smoking, malaria, obesity, rheumatism, high B.P., diabetes may cause hardening of arteries.
  • Emotional and heredity factors can also be responsible.

Treatment of Arteriosclerosis

  • Start with a short raw vegetable and fruit juice diet for 5-7 days (grapefruit, lemon, pineapple and juices of green vegetables are especially beneficial).
  • Use warm water enema daily.
  • Then opt for an optimum diet of fruits, vegetables and seeds, nuts and grains.
  • Cold pressed vegetable oils of olive, flax seed and safflower should be used regularly.
  • Take small meals instead of large ones.
  • Garlic and onions; Vitamin C found in citrus fruits especially lemon peel can be added to salads, soups and stews.
  • Allow lemon peels to stand in warm water for 12 hours and take a teaspoon every 3 hours or immediately before or after a meal.
  • Juices of carrot, spinach and beet are good.
  • Parsley can be taken several times daily in beverage form by simmering it gently in warm water for few minutes.
  • Eliminate all worries and mental stress; undertake out-door activities; neutral immersion baths at bedtime on alternate days is also beneficial.
