• Sports Massage is a special massage therapy that is developed for maximum benefits to sports persons from their respective sports. It focuses on muscle systems relevant to their sports.
• It involves different massage approaches when a sports person is undergoing training to prepare for an event, during the competition and after performing at a sporting event. 

Categories of Sports Massage
Sports massages can be typically categorized as Maintenance Massage, Event Massage, and Rehabilitation Massage

Maintenance massage

Event Massage

Pre Event: As part of the warm up to a competitive event, a warm up massage is given about 4 hours prior to the event. This improves circulation, focuses on conditioning of major muscles to be used, reduces anxiety and helps to improve performance

Post Event: A post event massage is mainly a warm down massage after the severe and intense activity which may result in spasms. It helps to relax the body and mind completely and gear for upcoming events.

Rehabilitation Massage
When sports persons suffer from injuries, sports massages help speed up the recovery from muscles cramps, ligament tears, bruises, and aches. It reduces discomfort during rehabilitation.
