Massage therapy is an ancient healing technique. It involves applying pressure to meridian points, using long smooth gliding strokes, tapping, circular movements, squeezing, rolling, kneading, friction, vibration with the use of fingers, palms, hands etc to correct body imbalances and promote general well being.

Massage Therapy has lots of physical, mental benefits. It relaxes body and mind; reduces stress, tensions, improves concentration, provides peaceful sleep, relieves aches and pains, increases flexibility, help recover faster from injuries and illness, strengthens the immune system, and so on.

There are various types and techniques of Massage Therapy. Each of these massage techniques has its own history and ancient values that have been further enhanced and developed to suit the modern times and requirements.

Let us briefly understand some very highly popular massage techniques.

Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient form of healing. It involves using the fingers and toes to press key points on the surface of the skin to release endorphins, block pain and increase the flow of blood and oxygen. 

It relaxes the body, increases circulation, reduces tension, strengthens  immune system and promotes wellness. 

Aromatherapy Massage

Essential oils obtained from various plants, herbs, flowers, roots have beneficial therapeutic qualities. Aromatherapy involves using these essential oils to achieve desired results. E.g. Lavender oil helps calm anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia etc. 

When a few drops of aromatherapy oils are added to massage cream or oil, they enhance the overall massage experience.

Ayurvedic Massage

Ayurveda originated in India thousands of years ago. The basis of Ayurvedic treatment is to restore the balances of the 3 forms of energy, i.e. Vata: The energy of movement;
Pitta, The energy of digestion; and Kapha- The energy of structure.

Ayurvedic herbs and warm oils are used depending on specific requirements of patients and are highly customized.  Ayurvedic massage helps reduce stress, relaxes the mind and body and brings about inner peace. 

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese word derived from “shi” which means fingers and “atsu” which means pressure. Thus it means “finger pressure”.  

Shiatsu Therapists diagnose problem areas with their fingers, palms and thumbs which sense the irregularities or pain or stiffness of specific points. They identify, heal existing problems; as well as treat any problems likely to crop up in future.  Thus, Shiatsu combines Diagnosis and Treatment.  Hence it is also a preventive therapy.

Shiatsu massages release toxins from the body, improve blood circulation, relieve stress, strain, increase stamina, flexibility and make you feel relaxed, rejuvenated. 

Sports Massage
