Treatment for Swollen Lip
Here are a few things you can do to try to lessen and alleviate the throbbing pain and swelling of lip. These are quite simple and can do them even at home.
- Application of cold compress or ice to the affected area. The cold temperature would decrease the swelling and it usually helps manage the pain and the swelling.
- Take cold sips of water with ice. This usually works when you are dealing with kids. They usually squirm a lot when you apply ice to their lips.Hence making them take sips of cold water will work as well.
- A fresh cool yogurt can also do the trick.
- Application of honey. Honey helps relieve the inflammation. You can simply rub honey over the lips.
- Aspirin. You can place an uncoated aspirin over the wound. This does have a bad taste.
Avoid Lip Swelling
- Be careful and watch where you are going. Try not to be too clumsy.
- When eating something, do not just put it directly to your mouth. Try to check, smell, and look for anything you might find in your food before eating it. You might one day be biting into a soldier ant, which is certainly not a very good idea.
- If you know you are allergic to some food, try to avoid them as much as possible. Learn to ask before you eat something especially when you are in doubt of the ingredients of the food.
You probably won’t be able to avoid biting your lip while sleeping. You also need to avoid drinking warm or even hot liquids because more blood will rush to your lips and make the swelling a lot worse.
