What Causes Fungal Infection of Lips

Lip fungus is usually caused in those individuals who have low immunity. This is a fungal infection and it is most common in those with compromised immune system. Immunological causes are epidermosis bullosa and pemphigus which can cause lip fungus. It is a distinctive group of disease marked by successive crops of bullae.

Herpes labialis is caused by herpes simplex virus 1. The patient presents with grouped vesicles on lips and adjoining area and a few hours before onset there is feeling of burning pain followed by crop of vesicles which break down after 48 hrs of appearance.

These crops recur and the attack lasts for 3 to 7 days and it is precipitated by fever, strong sunlight, emotional stress, local trauma.

Other causes are Riboflavin deficiency, Iron deficiency – anemia, excessive intake of alcohol, tobacco and ill fitting dentures.

Lip fungal Infection Prevention

  • For vitamin and iron deficiency, eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits.
  • Sesame seeds and jaggery should be taken regularly as these are rich in iron.
  • Meat especially kidney and liver and all dairy products are rich in iron and vitamin B12.
    These should be added to the diet.
  • Eat nutritious fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts. While treating the infection, a diet primarily with raw food is best.
  • Avoid tobacco, alcohol and caffeine. Also avoid sugary, fried and processed foods.

Home Remedies for Fungal Infection of Lips

  1. Castor oil 10 to 15 ml should be taken twice daily mixed with a cup of warm milk. Pepper powder is mixed with the juice of  leaves of  Stone Apple (Aegle marmelos) and  half  teaspoon 2 to 3 times a day is taken.
  2. Paste of lotus flower, half teaspoon mixed with milk should be taken twice daily for 15 days.
  3. Goldenseal contains berberine which destroys fungi. It can be used against every type of fungus infection. It can be applied topically and also taken orally.
  4. Bloodroot also contains berberine and it has shown equally effective results in treating fungal infection.
  5. Tea tree oil is excellent external application. Apply several times in a day to lip fungus.

    My lips are swollen red, corner of my mouth are dry and splitting, burning and itching. I have fought this for over a year with no relief. Is there a nature product to use? Anything I get from the doctor is not working.
