Green Tea Health Benefits | White and Black Tea Benefits on Health
Tea Side Effects:
According to a research conducted by St. George Hospital, London, caffeine present in tea, could exert pressure on the bladder, by causing muscles surrounding it to contract. It could result in incontinence of urine (dribbling of urine), frequent urination, or an urgency to urinate.
Experiments and clinical trials have showed that 5 cups of tea increases the urine output by 400 to 500 % in individuals who are vulnerable to kidney related disorders.
Tea also contains, oxalate. Excessive consumption of the beverage, could lead to kidney stone formation, and also soaking up of free calcium present in the body.
Tea Health Hazards:
- Coronary arteries get dilated resulting in an increased rate of blood flow. This occurs because the cardiac muscles get over stimulated.
- Also, tea stimulates muscles of the respiratory tract.Respiration quickens.
- Caffeine causes excessive arousal, which leads to anxiety, nervousness, irritability, and sleeplessness.
- What are black tea, green tea and white tea?
Black Tea:
- To produce black tea, the leaves of the tea shrub are allowed to oxidize. During the oxidation process, enzymes present in the tea, convert polyphenols (anti-oxidant compounds) in to other compounds which have much less biological activity.
Green Tea:
- Green tea is manufactured by lightly steaming the fresh cut leaves. This process prevents enzymes in the tea from converting the polyphenols, thus the polyphenols remain intact.
White Tea:
- White tea is a form of green tea. In this manufacturing process, new, unopened buds are picked, and steamed or dried. The tea is whitish- yellow in color, low in caffeine, and sweeter in taste.
Green Tea Benefits on Body:
- Green tea has significant health benefits. These health benefits are predominantly attributed to the presence of polyphenols.
- The major and most important polyphenols in green tea are flavanoids.
- These compounds are powerful free radical scavengers and destroyers.
- What’s more, these anti-oxidants, increase and enhance the activity of anti-oxidant enzymes in the small intestine, liver, and lungs.
- Polyphenols prevent cancers from occurring, by putting a stopper to the formation of potent carcinogens – nitrosamines. They detoxify or trap cancer causing agents.
Beware!
- Population based studies have revealed that black tea consumption may increase the risk of developing cancers, especially cancer of the colon, rectum, gall bladder, and endometrium
Swap black tea for these:
- Green tea or white tea.
- Flower teas (jasmine)
- Herbal infusions (holy basil. Ginger, peppermint, and chamomile)
- These options are extremely low on caffeine and tannin.
- They are healthier alternatives, providing, significant health benefits and multiple therapeutic advantages.
How to Serve Green Tea:
- Add 2 to 4 spoons of green tea to a cup of boiling water. Let it brew for 3 to 5 minutes. Brewing for longer makes the tea bitter. (It is a common mistake to brew tea till it acquires a particular shade or color).
- Take off the flame. Cool. Add 1 cup of either lemon juice, orange juice, or peach juice. Tip in a few ice cubes.
