Student Stress Management | How to Avoid Mental Stress and Reduce Stress
Stress and Students:
Pressure to perform well in exams is compelling school children, from classes 9th to 12th standard to pop pills to enhance their memory and to smoke. Psychiatrist Samir Parikh, who conducted the research, in 20 schools across Delhi and the surrounding towns of Noida and Gurgaon, stated that the anxiety to do well in exams and the demands from parents and teachers are intense.
Concentrating daily on a source of light or focusing on your breathing can make a huge difference.
How to Prevent Eye Strain:
- Take a 5-minute break every 40 minutes to ease eye strain. Get up and take a walk around the room. Eyes get tired when anchored to a fixed point for a prolonged period of time.
- Schedule study sessions early morning rather than late night.
- It is very important to adjust lighting in your study area.
- When we concentrate very hard, the blink rate drops. This leads to blurring and dryness. Remember to blink frequently too keep the eyes moist.
- Eye exercises are extremely critical to alleviate strain on the eyes. Follow this simple technique. Close your eyes and massage the eye lids in a circular manner, very gently. Make sure you do not apply too much pressure. Keep pour eyes shut for 3-5 minutes.
Stress Busting and Memory Foods:
- Banana: The fruit is rich in carbohydrates and potassium. Carbs assert a relaxing effect on the nerves as they produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter, which makes you feel calm. To beat stress, consume 2 bananas every day.
- Finger millet: This cereal is loaded with calcium. Research has proved that calcium helps decrease irritability and nervousness. Consume 2 tablespoons of finger millet in your breads, by mixing it with the wheat flour.
- Walnuts: Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acid. They boost your mood and help enhance memory and understanding.
How to Feel Relaxed:
- Make sure that you balance out study and recreational activities. Allot time for a hobby or an activity that you love. This eases tension and worries, and refreshes you, before you start the next study session.
- Regular exercise is a must. Meditation and breathing exercises are essential to release pent up emotions and make the mind relaxed.
- Add a crossword to your routine. Solving it is sure to give you a high.
- Eat well. Junk food and erratic eating patterns are detrimental. So ditch them.
- Playing with a pet or having a good soak in the bath tub is rejuvenating.
