Pesticide Health Risks, Side Effects | Pesticides Causes Cancer, Leukemia
Pesticide Health Hazards:
Studies have proved that farmers are at a potentially high risk of developing leukemia, lymphomas, and cancers of organs like the prostate, stomach, skin and brain.
Pesticides are linked to chronic health disorders and ailments.
Trials demonstrate that farmers lead a comparatively healthier life, than city dwellers. They have access to fresh, clean air, healthy food, adequate exercise, and a minimal exposure to pollution and cigarette smoke.
Despite this, farmers develop carcinomas and other chronic ailments.
In Britain, a royal commission on environmental pollution report concluded, that the pesticides were responsible for the ill health.
Exposure to these chemicals through foods consumed, damages the body’s detoxification and defense mechanisms, thereby, increasing the risk of getting cancers and other chronic illnesses.
Our body has a tough time detoxifying and eliminating these chemicals, which then end up getting stored in the fat cells in the body. Inside the human body, these chemicals act like the hormone estrogen, and are responsible for a host of estrogen related disorders, including breast cancer.
Pesticides Effects on Children:
- Avoiding pesticides is particularly important for toddlers and pre-school children. Children are at a very great risk of suffering from the damaging and deleterious effects of insecticides and pesticides.
- What’s more, children consume much more quantity of food, in proportion, to their ideal body mass, and consume large quantities of foods that have a huge pesticide residue – foods like, fresh fruits, juice and raw vegetables.
- A study was conducted on children in the age group of 2 to 4 years.
- Urine samples were collected and analyzed for the presence of break down products of organo-phosphorus compounds. The urine demonstrated a high percentage of the pesticide metabolites.
- Organo-phosphorus compounds are chemicals which have a dangerous and lethal effect on the nervous system, disrupting it.

- As much as possible, buy fruits and vegetables that are organically produced, i.e., without the help of chemical pesticides and insecticides.
- Opt for local produce, and in season foods.
- Peeling off the outer layers or the skin of the fruits and vegetables, also helps limit the intake of these chemicals greatly. (on the flip side, the outer layers are packed with vital nutrients, minerals, and vitamins, which will be lost.)
- Soaking the foods in produce wash or additive free soap is another effective alternative to fight the presence and to strip off the deadly chemicals. These bio-degradable cleansers are available at all health food shops. Gently scrubbing vegetables and fruits with a soft vegetable brush is also recommended.
